Morning Pre-Workout Meal? What to eat and how long to wait after?

I am going to College and recently started working out at the campus gym. I've seen really good gains (well at least I think so) in the 4 months I've been going. I like to go fairly early as I find it is not so packed. But I'm wondering, what is or are some good options for a pre-workout meal first thing in the morning? I can't seem to find the perfect balance; if I eat a lot, I feel bloated and bogged down, but if I eat too little (or a few times not at all) I feel really light headed and dizzy. So to those of you more experienced then me out there, what is a good pre-workout meal that works for you? Should I just be eating fruits and whole grains (carbs) before, or should I be consuming protein like eggs before? Also how long should I wait after I eat to hit the gym?....Sorry for the long winded question. Thanks in advance for your advice.
