National Guard and then Collage?

I really want to become an animal doctor, but my family doesnt have the money to ay for the collage i wanna go to. (BYU in Utah) and my dad told me i have the chance of joining the National Guard for 6 weeks and doing the trainig and then they will pay for my school. is that true?? only 6 weeks?! And if it is i feel kinda weird only going for a montha nd half and then saying peace out and now pay for my collage, i feel its taking advantage but idk, Some help please and thanks.
