Can I get away with strapping a 10ft x 8ft wooden panel to the roof bars of a bog standard transit...?

I have got to pick this panel up tomorrow as a matter of urgency and can only get my hands on a ford transit van with roof bars. Any advice on how best to strap the bugger down so it don't go awol?
