What do you think of being a virgin all life?

Especially a man who is not asexual and is not religious. My uncle is 64 and recently confessed to me he's a virgin (we get along pretty well). He has obviously never been married, lives in a big house on his own. When I said 'you must be joking', he said 'what would I gain from lying about this?'.
